- VIScorp and ESCOM have signed a letter of understanding that basically says
- that VIScorp will acquire Amiga Technologies GmbH along with everything
- that ESCOM got out of the auction, excepting the Commodore trademarks (not
- Amiga trademarks) and that the transaction value will be about $40,000,000.
- All that remains is for the two Boards of Directors to approve the sale.
-
- Mr. Sassenrath and Mr. Kreckman have both been typing 'til thy're blue in
- the fingers trying to reassure Amigans that they don't intend to interfere
- with AT to any great extent. Mr. Sasenrath has gone so far as to say that
- he hopes to build `one killer Amiga'. That, to me, does not say that the
- A1200 and A4000T are the last in the line---quite the contrary, in fact.
- Also, keep in mind what happened to Commodore when they stopped supporting
- the North American market. Where are they now. This is a lesson that has
- not been lost on AT and will not be lost on VIScorp. As important as Europe
- obviously is to the Amiga market, the single largest untapped computer
- market in the world is still the United States. VIScorp/AT would be fools
- to ignore that.
-
- The Amiga has a *big* advantage in the home market that no one here seems
- to have noticed. Most Americans that use computers at work without having
- one at home simply don't like to take work home. We need to convince them
- that they can honestly tell their boss "Sorry, I can't run Excel at home."
- Believe me, the workaholics here are still vastly out numbered. If you tell
- them that they can have a *good* computer at home without being able to run
- the software they use at work, they might just jump at the chance.
